Entry 9

Recognizing familiar hallways and rooms, Garith led the group to the goblin throne room. A pitched battle against a horde of hobgoblins defending their king. Garith going all out, leaving one fight to charge the king only to be stopped short. Raging power-blows, near exhaustion and death (2 HP) yet still he fought. Slew the king and a few more hobgoblins before he collapsed unconscious (loss of raging HP). A night of rest to then triumphantly carry the king's severed head upon a spear. A show of intimidation. A short-lived show when all lost their footing, sliding down a ramp trap. Into an underground world so far void of goblins and their kin.

  1. Garith...So the fat-bastard king still sat upon his throne. I would have charged him from the beginning but the fire-pit hindered my move. The same pit used to torture my brethren so long ago. Where I too was tortured, burned, stabbed until the king thought to put me to work in his forge. How I've waited for this day...bidding my time. A controlled raged as I swung my Warhammer smashing his minions gathered round the pit. And when the king waddled off his throne to attack the elf, I had my chance...charging the porker. Only to fumble short of my goal. Goblin blades carving me whether during attacks as I left their area, or flanking swings as they protected their king. Concern as my health threatened my efforts (2HP only because I gained +4 from my rage). But my mighty swing toppled the king with the aid of my allies.

And a smile on my face as the goblins didn't break to run...more joining the battle...those we left still sleeping in their cots a long hallway prior. More revenge, until all the hobgoblins lay dead (except for the last 2 who escaped). Veocyn and Geno bothered with treasure chests. My treasure was the king's head severed and stuck on a spear for me to carry into battle tomorrow. Let the remaining goblins piss their drawers before we decimate them too. A night of rest after I instructed the gnome how to craft his silencer.

But the new day foiled my plans once more. A slide trap that dumped us from these long halls into an underworld void of my goblin enemy. Crazed humans...led by their own human king. Caverns and an owlbear that wanted to hug Oleg. Soon a lifeless pile of feathers but no nest, no treasure horde. So we continued to another cavern where Angus was attacked by giant shrew. And having killed the beasts, he now coddled their offspring...a pet. Or is that really ingredients for another one of his sacrifices?

  2. Kukla…Even I have to admit Oleg and Garith tromping behind us are still noisy. So Geno and I space more ahead of them as we continue to search the hallways and rooms. An empty mead-hall for some 20 foe, an empty bunk room for half dozen, another door across with snoozing. I’m surprised Geno and Garith don’t slip into the room to slit throats as they’ve done before.
For Garith seems to recognize the area and is directing us down the long passage…”I remember the goblin king behind those doors when he sentenced he to the arena and forge nigh a year ago.” That news spurs us forward.
Not sure how far Geno got into the room before spotted, but the guttural bellow of the king prodded the rest of us into action. The fat king on his throne flanked by two guards, 4 more hobgoblins around a fire pit between the throne and us at the double-doors, 2 more in a corner fetching water from a barrel.
Oleg and Garith charged into the room with Angus soon to follow. I slipped into the right corner to fire crossbow bolts at one hobgoblin. I’m told Veocyn too fired arrows at the foe but post-battle inspection of the bodies lacked any of his arrow fletchings in any foe.
I guess the elf was deadly with his arrows because the king ordered an assault on Geno…the two guards and king closing on him. Oleg soon to move to aid his…master? Garith raging dealing max damage to one hobgoblin after another…totally bent on revenge. Soon reverberations as the fat king falls to the floor dead.
Myself dropping my cross bow to give flanking aid for Angus as we dealt with the other hobgoblins. But Angus moved to confront 4 more hobgoblin entering the room (remember the snoring sounds earlier?) , leaving me to face the original foe alone. Me with the shortsword (1d4+1) barely scratching the hobgoblin…so yes, I back-stepped dropping the sword as I raised my pistol dangling from my neck on its lanyard and blasted the foe. Gaping chest hole as the dead hobgoblin fell backwards into the fire pit.
Geno speaking goblinese probably trying to intimidate those remaining that their king was dead. But the battle continued, until finally, the foe broke. One killed in his place as he tried to flee, two at the door turning to run away. Finding Colin dead. Treasure hunting, king decapitation, then sleep in a secret treasure vault.
Waking with the expectations we will rout the goblin army today with Garith carrying the king-head skewered on a spear. Following the same passages as yesterday, yet the floor gives way as a slatted ramp tumbling us some 300 ft down the slope, dumped into an octagonal room. Crazed humans attacked but are quickly dispatched. We then check the doors and tunneled passages until we stumble upon a new king…”Peri Winki the 3rd” leading a pack of underworld humans. At least the hobgoblins are gone. Careful what you wish for, Geno.

  3. Angus-The dwarf has proven himself to me. I will take him under my wing and teach him the ways of my lord. He has already showed the knack for the role by slaughtering the hobgoblin king and mounting its head on a pike and carried it along with us.

We found another level of this sanctuary that seems to be a natural cavern. We found some feral humans with an inflated sense of self-worth and a strange animal that was like a mammal and an owl combined
