Entry 11

Morning and we continue searching the passages...for a way out? Have to evade the cube, luring it out of a new passage that leads to a new octagon room. 8 new doors. 8 meandering passages, most connected (door 2 leads to door 4, door 3 to 5). A side passage ending in a steam vent that rises to maybe the crevasse we saw in the monastery courtyard days ago. A monitor lizard basking in the heat, a swarm of fire-stinging gnats tasting Geno. A hasty exit before the vent blows.

Upon opening door 6, we can hear the crashing of a waterfall ahead. Phosphorous lichen lights the stream as we walk the shallow river coming upon a kobold outpost. So much for an exit from this hell-hole!

  1. Kukla...I don't know which is worse...more passages or the stench of the goblin king head the dwarf refuses to discard. I'll take the lead just to get as far from the decomposing head as possible!

We come upon a steam vent with gurgling and hissing warnings of an impending eruption. But the warriors want to tangle with a large lizard soaking in the heat. Geno is engulfed in a swarm of giant gnats that begin to wear him down bite after bite. So I sacrifice some gunpowder to smoke the swarm off him only to be their new feast. I'm surprised by their fire-sting, happy to be wearing a fire-resistance ring. Then alarmed at the thought their stings could detonate my gunpowder! The steam eruption is a welcome relief when the swarm leaves.

More passages before we come upon a waterfall and river. Me riding the magus' back to stay dry. A shore ahead...kobold guard sounding the alarm when he spots us. A standoff with us one side of the lava-filled crevasse and the entire kobold enclave taunting from their side of the bridges spanning the gorge. Our stupid archers wasting arrows they'll never get back. Geno furious my pistol was silent. One last bullet to what? Impress them, scare them? I'll save it for a more threatening foe. We leave to the sound of what I can only guess to be kobold cheers of victory.

We come upon a rock slide. Me carrying the rope to the top so we can haul the cleric up. But a rattler gets me. Poison quickly coursing thru my blood as I rapidly weaken as the cleric seems unconcerned for my condition. Angus tries to help. Half my health gone before Oleg finally steps in. I'll scout, but more cautiously. Unlike the elf who finds 2 prone kobold scouts peering over a cliff. The elf sneaking between them to whisper in their language...teasing them? Killing one before the other realizes he has uninvited company.

  2. Garith...cursed to carry this putrid goblin head. Or cursed because I carry it? A year laboring for the goblins as I can only plot my revenge. And the day my revenge is complete, I'm cast into this lower realm void of the goblins I want to taunt with the sight of their leader's head. Now I just look silly.

Another unmarked octagonal room and new cavernous passages I'd guess were carved by lava flow eons ago. One passage ending in a steam-vent evidence of the source. Shafts of light above suggest an opening. The others speak of a monastery courtyard, but I entered the underground goblin realm from the other side of the hill. Not sure why the elf decided to attack the monitor lizard basking in the steam. Eliminate a threat so he could explore? While we drove off the lizard, we were driven off by the sounds of the pressure buildup warning of the pending eruption.

Another passage leading to a waterfall and shallow river. Glowing lichen to aid the weak-eyed humans as we wade the waters exploring further down river. Oleg hailing a lone short figure standing upon a shore ahead. Kobold guard sounding the alarm. The elf dropping 2 of the 3 guards before they can get out of range. Our other archer Veocyn firing warning shots at the one that escapes. We wade ashore and follow finding the entire kobold pack standing on the other side of a lava-filled gorge. Geno apparently conversing to...demand they show us the way out? But it's a standoff of taunts. Our lost arrows to a few spears then sling-rocks. Me ready at the end of one bridge awaiting their charge that never comes. The elf finally conceding the standoff as he turns to leave amid the kobold cheers and leers. Me slowing backing, hoping now that I'm the lone threat, the kobolds will charge across the bridges (that I'm sure are too weak to support my weight had I charged at them). My final concession...I throw the goblin-head-topped-spear into the gorge as I watch it consumed by the lava fires. It's time to move on.

A rock/boulder slide ahead to slow our progress. The others anchoring a rope above to provide footing and balance to Oleg and I hindered by our heavy armor. More pause to tend to the gnome apparently bitten by a rattle-snake.

  3. Angus-More wandering looking for a way to get out of this place. It was an ingenious trap that put us into this spot. It is beginning to feel like an obulette and we are to be forgotten. I thought I found a way out but sadly it was a steam vent that would be much too dangerous to try to climb out before it boiled us alive. We started following a stream but ran into some dog-like creatures that Gariath called Kobolds. Filthy animals that must breed like rabbits as they just kept showing up. I decided that it was not worth the hassle to fight them as they looked like scavengers and would have little of value. Besides the bag is almost full already. We climbed a cliff and Kukla was bit by a snake. I wonder if he will recover, although he is not my favorite in the party, I save that honor for Gariath, I still have found him useful.
