Day 4: OK, so they weren't giants. But 10 ft tall and 600 lbs each, two Ogres arguing over knuckbones was menacing. Until Geno's rapid fire arrows dropped one, pissing the other off such that it charged grabbing the elf by his throat and crushing him to the ground. But Oleg killed that one allowing Veocyn to ransack the treasure chest in the corner.
A pushover encounter. Yeah, we're cocky bastards. Until the squad of hobgoblins knocked that shit out of us. Their critical hits answered by our fumbles. Kukla's pistol jams/misfires, Veocyn is down and bleeding, Angus slowed from a pulled muscle, while Geno's leaf armor slips from cut straps, and even Oleg's armor slacks from cut straps.
It's time to regroup in the fountain courtyard and heal for the night. A little craftsmanship repairs to armor and the pistol.

Kukla...Well crap. Hours wandering this building under rogue orders to keep my pistol holstered then finally a chance to shot. Damn thing jams! My first priority is to improve this thing making it more dependable. So far I'm lucky to get off one shot a day...and that was BEFORE the rogue restriction.
ReplyDeleteI think we've decided this is the rumored monastery...the healing fountain courtyard kinda confirms it. OK, was. It's taken over by goblins, hobgoblins, and who knows what. Rooms of broken wood and piles of trash, statues of some pagan god, another room with stores of armor and weapons, and dried food...enough to support a small army. And loud voices behind one door...giants Angus claims. Searching other corridors and doors, before we come back to the giants...what the hell, best eliminate the threat as who knows when that escaped goblin will bring reinforcements.
Ten feet tall, 600 pound behemoths ...and they're not giants? Ogres! Surprised as they sit arguing over a game of knucklebones. Geno's rapid shot of 2 arrows drops one before the other even notices our entrance. Pissed, it charges the elf grabbing him by the throat and slamming him to the ground in a crushing body-slam. An easy target as Oleg kills the beast attacking his master. Grunting as Angus rolls the dead-weight off the elf fighting for breath. A table and treasure chest full of coins Veocyn greedily plunders. And the realization there are 3 beds...another monster roams the halls...and he (or she) is gonna be pissed!
A barred door that soon reveals 4 neanderthal huddled in the corner. Monkey-men that Oleg can actually understand...kinda...hand gestures and the offer of food has them telling the cleric how they were captured as food. And there are more than 3 ogres around! The cleric wanting to help these creatures as Angus is more interested in slaying them.
Apparently Oleg has a plan to gain these monkey-men as allies. Leading them to the armory. Except as we turn the corner, shit hit-the-walls as we confront a squad of hobgoblins...the escaped goblin DID raise the alarm. And that's when my pistol jammed. And our cocky band of adventures are brought to our knees. Veocyn's and Geno's arrows missing their mark, Oleg and Angus swinging wide. The hobgoblins pummeling us with deadly (i.e. critical) hits as we fumble in rely (Angus dropping his hammer, Veocyn almost bleeding out, Geno's leaf armor slipping from cut straps, Oleg's armor also damaged, and me deafened). We are fighting for our life as I'm reduced to my pitifully damaging rapier. Which gives me reason to pour my vial of crushed berries down Veocyn's throat at the risk of attack. Reason to cast 'unseen servant' to raise Angus' fumbled hammer from the floor and present it to him. And more reason to risk more attacks as I maneuver around one hobgoblin to flank another giving Oleg an advantage. Finally, one foe remains on his knees pleading for mercy. We didn't need to understand his words, the gestures telling enough. And that's when Angus pounded his brains into mush. Wow, didn't see that coming. Angus...more like 'Anger McSlay' or 'Anger McStew' the way he has been sacrificing things to his god. To heck with me worried about the elf; this magus bears full attention.
We drag ourselves to the fountain courtyard where Oleg does mass healing. And offers parting signs to the monkey-men climbing the outer wall as they are anxious to return home to their hills. As the elf takes watch, I take hours tending my finicky pistol while puzzling ideas for the design of a silencer. Puzzling just which god Angus pays homage. A watchful eye on that one!
Goblins...umans. evil home-wreckers. Set fire to home. Then kill us as we come out to put flames out.
ReplyDeleteYareth knocked asleep. Defenseless. They kill him anyway.
Uurg right we should join hobgoblins to fight this threat.
Oleg - Today was very rewarding. I healed many wounds through the aid and guidance of Sarenrae. Although there was no undead to send back to the grave they belong in I did get the opportunity to rescue some hairy prisoners, keep them alive, give them some gear and food and send them back home.
ReplyDeleteAfter knocking some sense into Geno and Kukla this morning and showing them the right way to act we had a wonderful rest of the day. I really am glad we left the elven woods.
Geno - After catching our breath and some quick healing after the goblinoids we spiked the door to the basement and decided to clear this level before going down. Back out the door we entered to this room and down the hallway to the right. We soon reach an intersection that heads further west and turns right. we elect to go right.
ReplyDeleteDown this right hallway we reach another turn, this time to the left and again forward as well. The passage ahead ends at a wall, very weird, but not even a secret door. To the left is a short hallway with two doors, one to the right and another straight ahead. We easily hear two voices arguing in the giant tongue. We avoid them and check out the other door which is stuck. Nothing inside! Again we decide to avoid the giants and back track to the first intersection.
This long hallway has two doors to the left and one at the end. The first door leads to some type of sacrificial room and the other to an empty room. the one at the far end is chalk full of arms and armaments. We are now out of options and head back to the giants. We debate about how to handle them. Some want to speak with them which I said go ahead, while I pepper them arrows.
The door opens and Veocyn moves in and hits one with an arrow before he knew the door opened. I then moved in tried my newly learned skill of shooting two arrows I had been working on. WOW! Did it work. Two arrows and the giant thing fell over dead. The other one charged my and tackled me knocking the breath out of before we killed him. We gathered any goods we could find and moved to the barred door opposite the one we entered. Once we used a key we found we unlocked the door to find 5 strange individuals who were obviously weak no good prisoners. I used my ability to comprehend languages to understand what they were saying.
Oleg moved forward and tried to be nice and offer them food. After some useless minutes Oleg had a plan and we were just moving along. As we moved back the way we came I could see Angus wanted to kill them and I was not disagreeing with him. Looking at my map that I am trying to make of the building it seems to me that the middle front of the building has no access which is very odd. As we move back I searched for secret doors and found one along the way but did not tell anyone as of yet as I did not want to haul the slaves with us to new areas. I figured out that Oleg was taking them to the armory before sending them back home.
Before we could get there we turn a corner and run into a group of goblinoids again. This turns out to be a difficult fight but we came out victorious although a little injured. We go to the armory, kit out the cavemen and head to the pool area to rest for the night. The cavemen depart over the walls and we eat some food we found and sleep under the trees.
As I sit and meditate I realize that my ears are not ringing for the first time in many days. That silly little manboy is coming around and listening to reason. This was the first day he did not explode that contraption and the first day that none of our group fell unconscious. Hmmmm!
